Genji Ramen at Whole Foods Market - Santa Clara

Ramen's popularity will never die. People just love this stuff. It was a very smart choice for Whole Foods at Santa Clara Square to carry Genji Ramen at their hot food bar. Genji usually offers sushi made from natural ingredients, sustainably raised and caught fish, and has vegan options too exclusively for Whole Foods Market. Other locations may also offer teriyaki bowls and baos. They apply this same standard to their ramen. Two weeks ago, Genji Ramen and Sushi invited me to a tasting of their menu. The tasting was complimentary but the opinions on the food below are my own.

($11.99) Genji's Original tonkotsu broth
The noodles were springy and chewy. Genji does not have a brick and mortar store so they cook their broth at a food preparation center, freeze it, and distribute to their store locations such as this Whole Foods one. Same with the chashu. I couldn't tell this was once frozen. It reheats well. The soft boiled marinated egg was cooked in the store. I tasted a bit too much Mirin in my egg but the texture was nice. I liked that it had plenty of woodear mushroom.

($11.99) spicy miso tonkotsu
Phil preferred this one over the original tonkotsu broth. He thought the spice added more flavor. I thought there wasn't much spice but I do agree that it adds another element of flavor. The fixins are the same plus shredded dried pepper strands on top.

($3.99) tempura bao slider - This was tasty and a different take on the usual baos. Inside there is tempura battered and fried shrimp with a sweet hoisin-like sauce and shaved spring onions.

($3.99) Chashu pork bao slider - This version had similar condiments to the tempura slider except with tender chashu pork instead. The pork is lean and not the fatty belly cut we're used to when it comes to chashu. It's a bit bland except for the sauce. I recommend the tempura shrimp one instead.

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
Since Whole Foods opened last month, I've been here many times for shopping and for lunch. It is by far the best local Whole Foods because of its layout and offerings, especially for hot food. It's nice to have a quick ramen option. Though this one costs the same as restaurants and has slightly less in the bowl, it does its job of fulfilling a ramen craving quickly. Slightly less sodium than restaurants. The noodles were impressive for a food stall. I wouldn't get these particular drinks (hibiscus tea and matcha tea) again because they were too sweet. The coffee stand at Whole Foods has better options. I've enjoyed all my lunches at Whole Foods for a mixture of the atmosphere and tasty healthy options. Everything here is worth a try at least once if you're in the area.

Whole Foods Natural Glow Makeup & Pampering Event - Los Altos

One of my favorite events to cover each year is Whole Foods' annual beauty sale. The 2014 and 2015 events in Campbell were such fun experiences. I was already very excited for this year's event when they mailed me these baby and skin care samples. There are still two more events this weekend so make sure you sign up for your makeover adventure!

A big thanks to Lauren from Pink on the Cheek for helping me film our experiences getting a make over with the brands at the Los Altos event. See my YouTube video below.

First I got my foundation, concealer, eye liner, and mascara done with Dr. Hauschka products. The foundation is so light weight and provides a nice even coverage. I hardly felt like I had make up on. Dr. Hauschka is also really known for their skin care products which I can vouch for from previous years' samples. I'm not concerned about having my baby kiss me with these products on since they're made with natural ingredients.

Later I went to ZuZu Luxe and Gabriel Cosmetics to touch up my brows, eye shadow, and liquid liner. I was so amazed with the pigment in their shadows and how light weight it came on. The liquid liner was also very smooth and dried quickly. They gave me gifts of the Bisque and Charcoal colors. Highly recommend these shadows as a combo.
All the goodies from the event!

This cutie Lauren got a makeover from Mineral Fusion, ZuZu, and Gabriel Cosmetics. Her skin looked flawless.

A few food vendors were at the event including these yummy healthy Coco Roons from Wonderfully Raw.

And we have a brief but refreshing cider tasting with Rambling Route from Washington. The Apricot and Yakima ciders were my favorites.

Whole Foods Natural Glow Makeup and Pampering Event - Bay Area

Around this time of year, I look forward to the Whole Body by Whole Foods annual pampering events. In 2014, there was an event promoting a 10 Days of Beauty sale at the Campbell location. I had a blast getting my nails done and noshing on good wholesome food. For 2015, I enjoyed getting my nails painted with chemical free Zoya polish at the Makeup Breakup event.

Last week, Whole Foods sent me a personally curated package of goodies. Here's my little man modeling the products.

Weleda Baby Diaper Rash Cream - We already started using it and I'm impressed with the fast acting cream. It works as well as the Aquaphor one I use except Weleda's has natural ingredients. As you recall, we have lots of baby skin issues.

DeVita Solar Protective Moisturizer with SPF 30 - This one's all for mommy! I wear moisturizer with SPF everyday even if I only expect to be outside for as long as it takes to walk from the car to the office. Sun protection is a big deal for me.

Some other brands I look forward to seeing at this year's event is Giovanni's line of hair products. I was really impressed with their 2Chic shampoo and conditioner the other year. All the Mineral Fusion products I've tried from nail polish to face wash have been great. I also really look forward to seeing more from Dr. Hauschka skincare.

The event is open to the public, you can sign up for the event with the information below. I hope to see you at the Los Altos event!

Whole Body by Whole Foods - Make Up Break Up

It's that time again for Whole Foods' personal care department, Whole Body, to launch their spring sales season. Last year, it kicked off with the 10 Days of Beauty preview event at the Whole Body store in Campbell. This year's event is the Make Up Break Up - inspiring everyone to break up with their old, expired, or toxic conventional products and refresh their collection with plant based products from Whole Body.

Just like last year, stylists were on hand to glam up lucious locks with soft wavy curls. My friend (this is not her in the picture) got a beautiful beachy wavy look.

The food spread provided by Whole Foods' catering team was amazing as usual. Each appetizer contained at least one ingredient that was supposed to be good for your body. The vegan sushi rolls with forbidden rice, mango, and veggies was particularly tasty. There were several different types of crostini with toppings like rainbow chard and goat cheese, or tomatoes and burrata, or smoked salmon. Did you know you can have Whole Foods cater your events with a similar spread? I'm now totally considering it.

Not pictured: My friend got a full face of makeup done with Mineral Fusion's natural make up. I also got my nails painted with Zoya brand polish which I can attest that they're lasting long with no chipping.

But onwards to the free goody bags. Isn't that what everyone loves? Whole Body gave me so many samples last year that I gave a few away and I'm still using some to this day.

Particular favorites from last year.

Bach's Rescue Remedy all natural sleep aid spray made of plant extracts. Whenever I had a hard time sleeping, I would spritz the middle of my tongue with the sleep aid and it provided at least another 4 hours of good rest. It was just enough to help me rest but without feeling groggy or "drugged" up. This helped a lot in recovering from jet lag after last year's Asia trip. This was my favorite product and I highly recommend it because it's made of plant extracts and not chemicals. It's only good if you have a mild or temporary problem falling asleep or wake up in the middle of the night, such as with jet lag, but not if you have a serious insomnia issue. Much more effective to use in helping you fall asleep rather than to stay asleep. Ask for it at your local Whole Body store.

Weleda Skin Food cream is a must have. I keep the tube from last year at my desk. Dries quickly and works effectively.

Giovanni's 2Chic Ultra Sleek shampoo is great! A little expensive in retail pricing but as a grown woman, I think I can treat myself to more than Costco sized Pantene Pro-V. You agree?

Dr. Haushka Soothing Cleansing Milk cleanser/makeup remover. I gave this one to my friend who seems to like it.

This year's products:

Wooh another sample of Giovanni's 2Chic hair and body products. Can't wait to try.

Juice Beauty lip gloss. I don't use lip gloss so I'll see if this one wins me over.

Country Life Collagen and skin pills.
