Foodbuzz Blogger Fest 2011 - Chef Tyler Florence Demo

After the wedding, I've become a little obsessed with centerpieces. This lovely fall colored centerpiece graced every table during the Foodbuzz dinner event. Good choice!

The first appetizer was a plate of sushi rolls. I wasn't wowed but you can't go wrong with this either. It's also different than the roasted wild mushroom listed on the menu. I suspect some last minute kitchen mishap.

Vegetable samosas. I thought these were super delicious. The veggies inside were sweet and mealy, like sweet potatoes.

Butternut squash risotto bites? We had a menu and I conclude by process of elimination that this must be the butternut squash risotto bites, but it sure doesn't taste like it. In any case, it was not memorable.

During appetizers, Chef Tyler Florence, hereafter known as TyFlo, gave an engaging demonstration on cooking pork chops.

A screen shot of his finished product. It definitely smelled good, even though I could not try it.

Bibb Lettuce Salad - honey roasted pears, butter lettuce, glazed pecans and bleu cheese vinaigrette. I must be getting used to cheese after this event because there was cheese everywhere. I did not eat this ball of bleu cheese but I didn't mind the bleu cheese vinaigrette. This whole dish was actually quite tasty.

Underwhelming filet mignon with roasted prawns. The prawns were overcooked and the filet was not tender. I'm sad at unappealing filet, I usually love them all. The celery root puree underneath was really good but it tasted like mashed potatoes.

Dessert trio: Cowgirl Creamery cheesecake, sourdough bread pudding, chocolate mousse. Surprisingly, the chocolate mousse was the best thing. Wow this is just a whole weekend to start loving things I used to hate.

I met Sree from saagAHH, a blog about Indian food in LA. We discovered that we both got married on the same day this year. Wedding day twins!

Brunch at Perry's on Embarcadero the next day started with this Godiva coffee and chocolate liquer drink. It reminds me of a hot chocolate from Starbucks during the holidays but with alcohol. You can't taste it though, it was like a very mild coffee. Also add coffee to the list of things I hate but started to like after this weekend.

Granola and yogurt with fruit on tiny plastic spoons.

Brunch was buffet style so pardon my mish mash plate pictures. There were fruits and french toast, scrambled eggs, and fennel cranberry sausages.

mm figs and tiny apples. I love tiny apples!

This fennel cranberry sausage was so good. It's the perfect blend of sweet and savory.

Frittata casserole. This was just ok. Apparently I haven't liked any casseroles I've eaten. In general, brunch was the best meal of the event, although I hear Friday's dinner which I missed was something to behold. Maybe next year...I recommend Perry's at Hotel Clifford. I really enjoyed most of the foods at this meal.

On my way back, I walked by the Occupy SF campgrounds. Someone tell me again what they're fighting for? I haven't been keeping up and their protest signs don't say much.

Next time, goodie bags and a giveaway.

  1. Mmm...The food looks great. I can't wait for the day you will love "hardcore" cheese! Maybe a few more of these events.... Muah ha ha ha ha ha! I love TyFlo!!! And I don't think they're protesting anything in particular. It's just a massive temper tantrum.

  2. I am obsessed with centerpieces too, wedding twin :) I'm not a fan of fresh flowers though; I always feel sad that the flowers have to die :( (My decorator probably thought I was so weird, usually all Indian brides want tons of expensive flowers.) It was to terrific to meet you. I'm going to add you to my blogroll in a sec and figure out how to add you to my RSS feed or something similar so I can keep up with your blog. If you're ever in LA, please don't hesitate to contact me. We have so much in common, and it would be great to see you again :) Great job with your blog!
